INDIVIDUAL CLASSES

Campers may choose single or double periods to create a one-week, full day schedule.  

Grades listed are the camper's grade in fall 2018.

3D MODELING AND PRINTING (GRADES 2-8)

The world of 3D printing is exploding!  In this class, campers will explore how 3D printing technology is changing how the world makes and builds things.  Students will learn the basics of various 3D model creation software and apps to create their own 3D objects such as keychains, figurines, works of art and more.  

ADVANCED MUSICAL THEATER ~ DOUBLE PERIOD  (GRADES 2-8)

Can’t get enough?  Then sign up for this DOUBLE PERIOD of our Musical Theater class.  Students will work towards becoming a “triple threat” in this high energy class!  We will sing show tunes, learn Broadway style dance moves, and play theater games.  Students will also rehearse a production number from a popular musical.  Each week a different musical will be featured.  Musicals will include: James and the Giant Peach, The Addams Family, and Annie.

ART EXTRAVAGANZA (GRADES 2-8)

Through drawing, painting, collage, print making, sculpture, and other fun mediums, a new artist is featured each week.  We will talk about their life and work as we create our own project inspired by that artist's work.

BABYSITTING 101 ~ DOUBLE PERIOD (GRADES 6-8)

Have neighbors or friends asked you to babysit their children? Alana Pitcher, RN, an American Heart Association and Red Cross CPR/First Aid Certified Instructor teaches this Babysitter’s Training course. Note: Students must be eleven years or older by the start of camp and must successfully attend/complete all 5 days of classes to receive a Red Cross certificate.

BACKYARD GAMES (GRADES 2-8)

Kids will have a blast playing classic backyard games in this new class.  Campers will participate in classics such as Badminton, Croquet, cornhole, Wiffle ball and new games like giant Jenga!

BEGINNER GUITAR (GRADES 2-8)

This group guitar lesson will focus on the basics of playing the guitar including playing of notes, scales, and chords.  No need to bring your own guitar unless you want to!

CARDBOARD BOAT REGATTA ~ DOUBLE PERIOD (GRADES 5-8)

Campers will act as professional boat builders and sailors as they work in teams to design and build human-powered boats using only cardboard and duct tape.  At the end of the week, teams will race their boats across the Stone Ridge pool in front of the entire, cheering camp!  Whether campers sink or make it to the finish line, they’re going to have a blast.

COMPUTERS (GRADES 2-8)

Each camper will explore the world of computers at their own Mac station. Depending on age, kids will use programs such as Pixie, Microsoft Office, Kidspiration, and more. We will explore fun websites where campers can get creative and design their own stickers, window clings and other works of art.   Each camper will come home with their own folder of projects.

COOL CRAFTS (GRADES 2-8)

Ranked as our #1 class, campers can’t get enough of Cool Crafts! This class is jam-packed with one-of-a-kind experiences from our classic themes to our new projects.  Campers can take as many weeks of cool crafts as they want! Themed weeks include the following options:

CREATIVE WRITING (grades 2-8)

Are you an aspiring writer? Each day, campers will work with a creative prompt to inspire their stories or illustrations. Students will create a "book" which contains their creative efforts from class.  In-class projects include stories, poems, and artwork.  As an added feature, students will learn skills in public speaking as they read aloud to the class a story that they've written or a classic they want to share. 

DANCE (GRADES 2-8)

Dance Party: Join the hottest class in town as we have a ball learning & dancing the Cha Cha Slide, Cupid Shuffle, Wobble, the Whip, Electric Slide, and more!

Hip Hop: Want to learn how to dance like the dancers in some of your favorite shows and movies? We can show you.  Come enjoy and learn spunky, high-energy dance routines featuring funky, hip-hop moves.  Campers will learn choreographed routines as well as develop their own dance routines to popular music.  

So You Think You're a Dancer: Learn new styles of dance to include jazz, contemporary, and lyrical. This class will allow each student to try new technique, learn choreography and will include some popular and classical music.

DIVING (GRADES 2-8)

Join our pool staff in this class designed for the beginning springboard diver. Skills to be taught include the forward approach step, front and back take-offs, tuck, pike, straight and twisting positions, and front and back dives. Each child will progress at his or her own pace in this class while learning basic diving skills.

DRAMA (GRADES 2-8)

Places everyone! This class is based on dramatic play and learning to work in a group dynamic. Students exercise their creativity as they explore stories and learn how to create characters physically and vocally that take them on great adventures. We’ll explore pantomime games, improvisation and more!

FREE SWIM (GRADES 2-8)

Have fun with your friends while lounging in an inner tube, playing with pool noodles, or jumping off the diving board. Campers must pass our swim test in order to swim without one of our Stone Ridge swim vests.

GATOR GAMES (GRADES 2-8)

How much excitement can we pack into one class? Try us! This camp favorite features daily, fun competitions in such games as Capture the Flag, Dodgeball, Indoor Hockey, Wiffle Ball, Kickball, and a few Gator Gladiators classic games. Bring your sneakers and your energy!

GIMP 101 (GRADES 2-8)

Many campers can't get enough of this traditional camp craft!  Learn how to start your own gimp project and make more difficult designs such as cobra, zipper, double barrel and double box, Campers will go home with their own hand-made key chains and crafts.

GOLF PERFORMANCE CAMP  (GRADES 4-8)

Work with the Peak Golf Fitness company and work on golf skills here at Stone Ridge this summer!  SMASH stands for Stability, Mobility, Athleticism, Sports Skills, Hone Golf Skills.  SMASH ZONE classes are designed to create, build and emphasize athletic skills in junior golfers. This class is for campers who have expressed an interest in playing golf. Junior golfers are introduced to beginning and intermediate level shot making skills and physical fitness routines here on campus using our outdoor fields and gymnasiums. At the end of this class, students should be able to understand shot making skills and how athleticism and fitness will help them in golf and other sports.  

INNERTUBE WATER POLO (GRADES 3-8)

Grab an inner tube and play this easy-to-learn, hysterically funny, pool game. Race to score as many goals as you can against your opponents while paddling across the pool.

INSPIRATIONAL AND  FOUNDATIONAL MATH ~ DOUBLE PERIOD (GRADES 3-4, 5-6)

Students will be immersed in math investigations and open-ended creative math problem-solving skills. Your student will build confidence and enthusiasm for math. They will work on  building numeracy, fluency, and confidence using a variety of tools and strategies. Offered week 2 only.

JEWELRY MAKING (GRADES 2-8)

Learn to make beautiful earrings, bracelets, necklaces, and more.  Campers will practice skills such as beading, weaving, knotting, and creating clasps.

LEGOS, LOGS & LINKS (GRADES 2-8)

Calling all kids who like to build masterpieces with their hands! Let’s go “retro” and use classic building materials such as Legos, Lincoln Logs and K’nex in this class designed to encourage creative building and exploration.  Build skyscrapers, cabins, race cars and more in daily building challenges.

MAD SCIENTISTS (GRADES 2-8)

Help! Our mad scientist needs campers like YOU to help run experiments, concoct new contraptions, and explore science and nature inside and outside of the classroom. Choose from these themed weeks that have a variety of classic and new experiments and activities.

Amusement Park Fun!: Join us for a fun week in an amusement park! Design your own marble roller coaster ride! What is the best part about amusement parks? The delicious snacks! Homemade ice cream, and maybe even some cotton candy!

Flying through Gravity: Ever wonder what it takes to fly through the air? We will soar through the air with rockets, planes, and helicopters. Can you protect a fragile egg from the effects of gravity? Join us to find out!

World of Potions: Can potions come to life? Come join us to mix all kinds of ingredients to create potions that may explode! From exploding volcanoes to oozing slime, anything is possible when we have the right ingredients!

MAKERSPACE (GRADES 2-8)

What could be better than designing, tinkering, and making? Through various activities in this favorite grab bag class, campers will be able to build, code, invent and be creative. Using a unique array of tools, equipment and materials such as Makey Makeys, circuits, upcycled and craft materials, etc. you will be able to create whatever you are interested in!

MOVIE MAKING STUDIO (GRADES 2-8)

Back by popular demand! Learn how design, create and produce a short film and cool video clips. Use great photo and video software to storyboard your ideas, create a set and learn to edit the film.

MUSIC AND SONGS (GRADES 2-8)

Explore the world of music through popular songs, musical games, dancing and more!

NEWSPAPER  (GRADES 4-8)

Our roving reporters will work in this computer class to create our own Gator Gazette. Students will learn to design our own blog newspaper including articles, photos, interviews, reviews, and weekly news updates. 

NEWSPAPER  CLUB - double period (GRADES 4-8)

For our reporters who want to take it to the next level, this computer class will create the weekly Gator Gazette blog as well as learn different applications and tools. Students will learn to design our own blog newspaper including articles, photos, interviews, reviews, and weekly news updates. Additionally,k ids will use programs such as Microsoft Office, Learn to Type, and more. Campers will be learning online presentation tools to help them prepare creative presentations for school such as Padlet and Tackk where they can creative web-based bulletin boards.

PHOTOGRAPHY (GRADES 3-8)

Campers will learn basic information on photo composition and will have the opportunity to take portraits, landscapes, action shots, and even help create a photo booth.  We will spend a class learning how to manipulate images with photo software.  Students will have access to their digital images to share with their family.

PICTURESQUE PAINTING (GRADES 2-8)

Each week a new artist is featured (we will talk about their life and work-art history stuff) and all paintings will be inspired by that artist’s work.

SPORTS ACADEMY ~ DOUBLE PERIOD (GRADES 2-8)

Hey sports fans, the double-period is BACK by popular demand! How would you like to play your favorite sports every day, led by enthusiastic and knowledgeable coaches and counselors? How about participating in an Olympic type festival where your skills in wacky games and camp spirit are tested? Play basketball, soccer, softball, track & field, kickball, pool games and more Join our all-star Sports Academy staff  and enjoy the best summer of your life!

STOP MOTION VIDEO FACTORY (GRADES 2-8)

Ever wonder how some of those incredible short films are made? In this class, you will learn how to make a group stop motion video by creating your own story, taking photos, and piecing together a great video using our iMacs.

STRINGS & THINGS (GRADES 2-8)

Sewing enthusiasts will love to get their hands on a needle and thread in this popular class which teaches the basics of knitting, embroidery, basic weaving and original designs.

SWIM CLINIC (GRADES 2-8)

Whether you are a beginner who needs to learn how to swim or a swimmer who doesn’t have time for morning practice, our pool staff will divide our swim clinic into three levels– Beginners, Intermediate, and Swim Team.

  • Beginners: This class is appropriate if your child is comfortable in the pool, but needs help putting his/her face underwater. Your child will be taught the front glide, kicking, back float, and the basic freestyle stroke, along with swim safety skills in a fun, safe environment.
  • Intermediates: If your child can swim twenty-five yards freestyle and tread water for one minute, this is the class for him/her. Drills will be taught in freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Starts and turns will be introduced.
  • Swim Team: This class will be instructed with swim team drills to keep them trained and prepared for their swim meets.

TOTALLY TRENDY CRAFTS (GRADES 2-8)

Calling all fashionistas!  Create no-sew fashion accessories like duct tape bags, hair accessories, and locker bling.  Go ahead and get ready to make a fashion statement as you design these totally trendy crafts!

UKULELE (GRADES 2-8)

It's summer so why not learn how to play the tropical version of guitar - the ukulele!  Ukulele is much easier to learn than guitar and it is fun!  We have our own ukuleles so you just need to show up ready to play in this group lesson!

WRITER’S WORKSHOP ~ DOUBLE PERIOD (GRADES 3-4, 5-6)

Students will examine and discuss various types of writing using Writer’s Workshop Approach to teaching written expression.  Topics may include personal narrative, opinion, and nonfiction.  Students will study these genres through reading, listening and discussing works by various authors and by creating their own written work.  The course is designed so that each student can work at their own ability and reach their individual potential. Week 3 only.
